A Weekend at Heidi’s – How I Plan to Succeed

Nest Pretty Guest Room

This weekend I have guests coming. These are not just any guests—we have been friends for years. We worked together, played together, dined together, cried together, even stayed on a boat in Mexico together. As a hostess, they have seen me at my best, but they have also been party to my epic failures.

Once, at the behest of my husband, I had to pull appetizers—at the last minute—out of my hat (actually, out of the back of my fridge). Splitting one meatball into four pieces was not exactly a shining moment for me. And now that I think about it, perhaps I should’ve left the pickled herring in the back corner of the refrigerator where it belonged….

Another time I decided, after a long day of shooting on location, that I would make these same friends lamb chops. I didn’t care that it was 7:00 on a Friday night, they were getting lamb chops! Well, four grocery stores and an hour later, I made a shrimp scampi. Now one of my friends texts me pictures of lamb chops at every restaurant he goes to.

While my successes could be considered memorable, it’s the misses I get teased about the most. So I have Nest Pretty’d and planned well ahead—epic fails are not in the cards this weekend.

  • My menu is set, I planned all five days—breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • The refrigerator is full. Lamb chops? Yes. Meatball? NO! But I made sure I have everything for my menu so I don’t have to run to the store at the last minute. That is, unless my high-maintenance friends decide they need something I don’t have.
  • The bar is stocked. We made our liquor store runs last weekend. We got everyone’s favorite libation, down to the Malibu rum.
  • The rooms are clean and the beds are made.

I am ready to party and relax this weekend with some fabulous friends and I can’t wait! What are you doing this weekend?
