Everyday women exposed to more than 160 chemicals from cosmetics. It’s believed that there could be more than 13,000 chemicals used in cosmetics today. However, only 10% have actually been approved by the FDA. So, between cleansers, moisturizers, makeup, and body lotions that we apply everyday, our bodies have to put up quite a fight before we even leave the house.
That’s why I love Young Living’s Savvy Minerals Makeup. I have the comfort of knowing that the cosmetics I’m using are plant-based and healthy. Last week I focused on foundation. This week, I’ll talk about the rest of my makeup routine.
Blush—I’m using Awestruck by Savvy Minerals. It’s a lovely, soft pink. This is the second blush I’ve tried and prefer this to Passionate. That one is a little too brown for my skin tone and it’s matte. I prefer a little shimmer in my blush. I also like this pink tone. It adds just the right amount of color to my cheeks without making me look like I am “made-up.”
I also LOVE Crowned All Over. It’s my go-to bronzer. Sometimes I just use this instead of foundation because it gives my skin an almost kiss-by-the-sun glow. It’s perfect and I never go without it.
Eyeshadow—I’ve tried a number of their eyeshadows, but my favorites are Wanderlust, Ambition, and Elegance. I also really like their palettes. Some people find them easier to apply than the loose shadows, but I like both. In addition to their shadows being chemical and talc free, they also have Lavender essential oil in them so you can feel really good about putting them on your skin.
Mascara—Most commercial mascaras have the same four harmful ingredients: parabens, aluminum powder, propylene glycol, and retinyl acetate. According to www.medicaldaily.com, these chemicals can interfere with our nervous system, endocrine system, cause skin irritations, and can even cause mutations in our genes. And this is just what we put on our lashes!
Savvy Minerals mascara is different. Not only is it formulated without harmful products, but it’s also infused with Lavender essential oil. It’s great for sensitive skin and is actually good for you. What’s not to like?
Eyebrows—When I was young, I had a love-hate relationship with my eyebrows. I thought they were “too large”. When I was 12, however, I took matters into my own hands and, with a pair of scissors, did some “brow-scaping.” What followed was a trip to the drugstore to buy my first-ever eyebrow pencil.
A few years ago, I finally decided to get my eyebrows threaded. The experience was fantastic and I was finally able to make peace with my eyebrows. As I got older, however, my eyebrows started to thin out. So, the woman who threads my eyebrows suggested I put olive oil on them to promote hair growth. Well, that was a little too messy for me, but then I discovered Animal Scents Ointment by Young Living.
While I don’t have any pets to use it on (Saturday is perfectly moisturized), this salve is full of healthy fatty oils and powerful essential oils. I LOVE IT! I put it on my eyebrows everyday, and my eyebrows are finally growing again. I highly recommend trying it for yourself.
Lips—No parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, bismuth, talc, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic colorants, this lipstick is all natural and goes on nice and smooth. My favorite color is Posh. It’s a plum color, nicely pigmented, and looks great with my skin tone. It’s also infused with orange, peppermint, spearmint, and cinnamon essential oils. Because it’s infused with “hot” oils, it also plumps up your lips. Not bad for a lipstick that’s plant-based.
Those are just a few of my favorites from Savvy Minerals. I love knowing that what I put on my skin, whether it’s blush, eyeshadow, mascara, or lipstick is completely natural and chemical-free. I find it such a stress relief when I can switch from using a chemical product to using a natural one. What about you?
If you haven’t tried Savvy Minerals by Young Living yet, what are you waiting for? Ditch the chemical-laden commercial cosmetics, and try the natural alternative. You may be surprised just how good your skin can look and feel.
