Beauty is more than skin deep, in fact, I like to call it an inside job. The better your nutrition and overall wellness, the healthier you will look on the outside.
For example, what do your skin, hair, and nails say about you? Do they say ‘I eat well,’ or do they scream of your Chick-fil-a addiction? Do they declare ‘I love who I am’ or does it look like they are announcing to the world ‘Who cares? I certainly don’t.’
If you want healthy, glowing skin, shiny hair, and strong nails it must be more than just wishful thinking. It needs to be translated into action. A balanced diet is one of the most important things you can do, but for those who work full-time, it may also be one of the most difficult to control. It requires careful planning and…time. But the investment is well worth it.
It is also important to do your research. Did you know that, as we age, we need more protein not less. How much do you need? It depends on your level of activity and age. For a 40 year old woman, who is moderately active, she could need as much as 120 grams per day. That is equivalent to 3 cups of diced chicken or 24 ounces of salmon per day! I’m already full….
Why am I talking about protein? Because that directly affects the health and appearance of your skin, hair, and nails. And we generally find it easier to eat carbs throughout the day, leaving us protein-deficient. The reality is, however, eating that much chicken or salmon in a day doesn’t sound appealing and it can also be expensive. So what else can you do?

NingXia Red—Judah and I love this drink! It is full of antioxidants (so important when fighting free-radicals which affects our appearance) and it tastes fantastic. I drink it straight or make a little drink out of it by adding some seltzer. I literally feel every cell in my body wake up and do a little dance whenever I drink it. Who doesn’t want their cells to dance?
Omegagize—This is my Omega 3 supplement since 24 ounces of salmon a day just isn’t possible. True confession: I recently tried taking flaxseed oil…drinking it. I tried it straight. Then I tried taking it in my water. Then I tried taking it with orange juice. Finally I gave up because I. Could. Not. Choke. It. DOWN. So I love my Omegagize. I get all the benefits of taking flaxseed oil, minus the gag reflex.
Life 9—The body’s microbiome is literally the very foundation of our health. So if that is compromised in any way, it can affect your weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol, as well as…your outward appearance. That is why I take this for my probiotic. Keeping my microbiome will help support the rest of my overall wellness, which will also give my body the boost it needs to keep me looking good on the outside too.
